Astor woke up early, stretching out, it was Christmas morning and there was a lot that was going to happen. So many residents and the van had practically been stuffed full of presents for each and every one of them. Including a special one that he got for Euphemia while she was busy looking at something else. Astor tore himself from his bed, knowing that only one person in the house was going to be up at such an unreasonable hour, and it was as much of Phalanx tradition as the homemade stockings.
Astor dressed quickly, even donning a red felt Santa hat. He grabbed the special presents that he got for his brother and sister and made his way down to the kitchen. He knew better than anyone that Astrid was probably up, and could only guess where their brother was. He made his way into the kitchen, leaving the wrapped presents on the sizable island in the middle of the redone kitchen. He bought the house nearly ten years ago and housed supernatural teenagers. Almost every inch of the house had been remodeled, redone, or patched at some point in time. Ash dumped out some old coffee from the day before, and brewed some fresh. There were presents piled up under the tree, compliments of himself, Eppie, and the other employees of the house. All late last night wrapping presents and stacking them strategically to make sure that everyone in the home had something to open.
A chance to feel normal.
He poured a cup of coffee for himself, grinning as the rich scent filled the kitchen. It was going to be a long day, but it was easily his favorite time of year. Ash sent a text to his siblings, hoping that they would follow in the Perona way and be awake way before anyone else in the house. He texted them both that he had presents and couldn't wait for a small family moment before the chaos of the rest of the house descended upon them all.

It was finally Christmas.
It was one of Astrid’s favorite holidays, topped only by Thanksgiving because of the feast that was put out. Christmas was the time for fuzzy socks, warm blankets, and cheesy holiday movies by the fireplace. This was not her first Christmas at Phalanx, but it would be the first for some of the newer residents and Asha wanted them to know that they were as much a family as she and her brothers were. Just because they might not have been related by blood, didn’t mean that they weren't family. Phalanx was a place for a variety of people to come, people who typically couldn’t afford to pay the ridiculous prices of Primrose and didn’t belong in Monroeville. Some of the kids here came from families that didn’t have anywhere else to go while others didn’t even have a family to speak of. Each of them was important and Asha had picked out small gifts for everyone - though she had undoubtedly gone out the most for Cora.
That ungodly hour of the morning saw her peering over at her best friend, able to make out the sleeping silhouette beneath the glow of the twinkle lights that the teenagers had strung up in their bedroom. There really wasn’t a better roommate for Asha than Cora and she was grateful that Astor had allowed them to room together. It was simultaneously his best and worst decision. Quietly, the blonde pushed her covers back and slipped out of bed, pulling on a pair of fuzzy sweatpants that were decorated with colorful string lights before shoving her feet into a pair of slippers. Crouching down beneath her bed, she grabbed the presents for her brothers before setting them on her bed so that she could pull on a long sleeved shirt over top of the sports bra that she slept in.
Uncaring of the mess her hair might have been - which wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been - Asha gathered the presents and crept as quietly as possible from her room, pulling the door shut behind her. As her phone buzzed, the teenager shifted the presents to one hand to check the message. It was no surprise that it was Astor and, instead of responding, she pocketed her phone again and quickly moved down the hall before descending the stairs and into the kitchen, drawn in by the delicious smell of coffee. She didn’t have to see her brother to know he was there and, as she turned the corner, she was already greeting him. ”Merry Christmas, Ash.” It was perhaps too cheery for the hour of morning, but Asha was as much of a morning person as she was a night owl.
Depositing her own gifts onto the island near the others, she stepped over and hugged her brother tightly. ”Brownie points for the coffee,” Asha said teasingly, knowing that he made it more because he had wanted it, but that wasn’t going to stop her from enjoying a mug of it.
Seeing the mop of blonde hair, Astor grinned. He loved his sister more than anything in the world. He could remember so clearly the day that he was able to meet her. It was his first day outside of Monroeville and he honestly didn't know that anything so perfect and small could really be related to him. He didn't think that it was possible to love anyone so much. He also met his brother, and he loved him too, but there was something about Astrid that even as a small child she was able to wiggle her way into his heart in a way that he thought Monroeville destroyed for him.
He thought that place tore every scrap of humanity out of him, and it just look one look from a little blonde baby to practically undo years of psychological hell. She laughed at him in that small way that only children and angels are able to manage and he felt like a healed person. There was no way that the world was as broken and cruel as he built it up to be when there was such purity and perfection in a little child who just wanted to hug him and let him know that everything was okay.
And people wondered why he was as protective as he was over her.
He took a sip from his mug and watched her pour herself a cup of coffee. It was as deep in their genetics as shifting into animals. "Half a cup, can't risk stunting your growth anymore than it already has." He teased and pulled her into a hug. He kissed the top of her head, happy that he was able to have a relationship with her, that he got out of Monroeville, and wasn't the monster that they all swore to him that he was. "Merry Christmas, pup."
He let go of Astrid and checked his phone, seeing a text from 'Big Brat' meaning their middle sibling, "Seems like the big brat is going to Atlanta for the day with some friends from Primrose. He sends his love." He put his phone back on the island and took a sip of his coffee, "You want your present now, or you want to wait for everyone else to wake up?" He asked, setting the mug down with his cellphone. He had a special gift for Euphemia too, and he really didn't need his sister's commentary on the matter. No matter what she saw in that classroom. It was in the past and it was just a mistletoe kiss and it didn't have to mean anything.
Friends kissed sometimes.
It happened.
Not that he would ever want Astrid to know anything about that. He took another sip of his coffee and tried to push thoughts of Eppie out of his head.

Asha had a lot of fond memories of her childhood. She knew that Astor had come into her life after she was already a couple years old, just as she knew that he wasn’t her full brother. None of that had mattered, though. He treated her like any brother would treat a sister and his love for her was something that she appreciated as much as she attempted to take advantage of it. There were things that he would allow her to get away with that their elders never would have allowed. While she loved her fully biological brother, too, there had always been some kind of disconnect there. She knew that he was important to her, that she cared for him and would look out for him the same way that he looked out for her, but it was Astor that had been there for her more than anyone. Even after all of his time in the hospital, he somehow managed to care about her so much and wanted to give her the world.
There were no doubts that Astrid took advantage of her brother’s big heart - but that was what little siblings were supposed to do. The age difference between them had never prevented them from having a bond, which was saying something considering that he was old enough to be her father. Their relationship was, in some ways, similar to that of a father and daughter, but there was far too much banter and rebellion to actually have that relationship. It had only increased since Asha found herself navigating the treacherous waters that were her teen years. She knew that she was blessed having a supportive family when it came to her ability and having a safe place to study the craft while under the watchful eye of someone who wouldn’t let her get hurt was something that meant the world to her. Asha knew that Ash would have tried to move mountains for her if it was necessary. That was just who they were.
”Half a cup is simply not enough,” the teen chirped as she filled the cup almost to the brim, leaving enough room so that she could stir in the sugar without having to worry about spilling any coffee over the edge of the mug. As she stirred the sweet crystals into the otherwise too bitter drink, her gaze turned towards Astor, smiling warmly up at him. ”It is a merry Christmas.” It was going to be a good one, she could feel it in her bones. Lifting the mug to her lips for a sip, green eyes turned towards Astor as his phone went off. Her nosiness begged for her to peer at the message, but she didn’t have to as Ash was already telling her who it was from and what the message had consisted of. Wrinkling her nose, she huffed out a quiet sigh. ”Well, I guess he’s doing what he wants. I’m surprised those kids deem any of us worthy,” she said, unable to hide the margin of bitterness from leaking into her voice.
Shaking her head, Asha put on that vibrant smile again. ”It doesn’t matter. We’re together and we have the whole house to celebrate with!” They were going to enjoy the day if she had to turn into a wolf and herd every single one of them into the living room to celebrate. Moving over to the island, Asha set her mug down and leaned over the countertop, stretching out the aching muscles in her back. ”There’s no time like the present for us. You know we won’t have a moment of peace after everyone is up,” the blonde reminded him. ”Though, I can’t wait to see what you got for Miss Morgan~” She grinned mischievously over at her brother, a solid reminder that she recalled what had happened in the classroom and the way that both her brother and teacher had been so unwilling to tear their lips from the other.
He was definitely in denial about things, that much she was sure of.
He knew that he was lucky to have his family so close. Unlike a lot of other residents of Phalanx, Astrid didn't have to be there. She easily could live at him with their parents, but it was nice for Ash to be able to see his siblings daily. He loved his brother and sister more than anything, so spending more time with them and helping them learn how to control their shifting was great for him. Astor wanted to be able to spend as much time with them as possible, even if they were sometimes pains in his butt. Their parents were regulars around the house, and Ash loved that. He missed so much time with his dad and step mom when he was in Monroeville, so he would take any excuse he could to make up for the lost time.
"This is why you're a shrimp, pup."
Ash took a deep drink of his black coffee, watching her stir in sugar. Personally he enjoyed how bitter it was, but after so many years in the hospital he was used to lukewarm and disgusting. He looked around the decorated kitchen and knew that there was going to be a Christmas feast for everyone later in the day. "I would ask if you're on Santa's nice list, but let's face it, I know you Astrid." She was a brat and she was constantly giving him a hard time. That did seem to be a common theme of Phalanx House, and the decorating take over day in Eppie's classroom did seem to add to that. He knew that she was in there chanting along with some of the other Phalanx kids. "Wow, someone misses her big brother." He shot at her and took a sip of his coffee. He loved his brother too and did miss him, but he was a man now and he could make his own decisions about what he wanted to do for Christmas.
Ash took her present out and handed it over to his sister. It was something a little nicer than he was usually willing to give his sister, but he was having a good year with Phalanx and he was feeling good about a lot of things. Inside of the boxes were a new cellphone, and a new watch that would help her track her steps while she was running. Astrid was always so active and he thought that she would enjoy it. He picked up his mug and glared at her when she brought up Euphemia. "You can stop talking about that. It was a mistletoe kiss and that was it." It didn't, he thought about it constantly, and it was something that he did want to happen over and over again.

Asha knew that she was fortunate to have everyone that she cared about so close to her, from Astor and Sirius to the friends she had made like Cora and Jude. There were a lot of people that went their entire life without being fortunate enough to even have a single person that they cared about, let alone be able to have them so close all of the time. While it was true that she could have stayed with her parents instead of residing at Phalanx, she wanted to be have the full experience, to be immersed in everything that Astor would be able to teach her and learn from the lessons that life had taught him. There was also the fact that she wasn’t entirely in control of the more animalistic side of herself, but she certainly wasn’t to a point where she needed to be in a home for people who had difficult or locked away in Monroeville - a place she knew to avoid with every fiber of her being.
”And what’s your excuse, hmmm?” The youngest Perona batted her eyes up at her brother, knowing full well just how much coffee he consumed on a regular basis. If coffee was the reason that their height was so drastically different, surely it stood to reason that the more she consumed, the taller she would become. Considering that height was something that favored her brothers, Asha often joked that they had stolen any additional inches that could have been given to her because they were born before she was. If she was short, it was going to be their fault. Even if genetics played a part, that didn’t mean that she couldn’t blame them. After all, that was what sisters were for, wasn’t it?
At her brother’s comment, an eyebrow quirked though it was quickly taken over by the mischievous smirk that dimpled her right cheek. ”I am always on the nice list.” It was a scout’s honor or… something like that. Her sass was a quintessential part of who she was and imagining a year where she went without it was something that just wasn’t possible. That was like asking her to be a completely different person. ”I always miss my brothers. You’re my pack, remember?” It was easy for Asha to return the shot that he had taken, reminding him that their family was the most important thing to her. Regardless of all the shit that she might have given to her brothers, she would have done anything to help them in times of difficulty - no matter how much younger than them she was.
Green eyes followed the path of Ash grabbing the present that was for her and setting it in front of her. Bright eyes looked up towards him and she grinned, leaning over the table to slide his gifts over to him. It wasn’t anything extravagant - she couldn’t afford that while she was between jobs, but she wanted to get him something. Inside, he would find a homemade coupon booklet with freebies that could be redeemed at any time - most notably were the several that indicated he could get off scot free without her harassing him about something or other. In addition, she included a gift card to one of the local shops she knew he loved, where coffee and beignets were always available in droves.
”I could stop talking about it, but then where would the fun be?” The grin on her face told her that she wasn’t going to let up on what she had witnessed in the classroom anytime soon. Ash could have claimed that it was just a mistletoe kiss until he was blue in the face, but the littlest Perona wasn’t buying what he was trying to sell. However, she contented herself to opening the present that he had got for her, knowing that too much tormenting him could result in him taking them back and holding them up out of her reach until she apologized for the sass. Tearing wrapping apart, her eyes lit up at the gifts that her brother had presented her. They were more than what she would have possibly hoped to expect and the grin that broke over her features revealed her excitement. ”Ash! I love them!”
Setting them down and dropping the wrapping paper haphazardly on the floor, she eased around his coffee mug and flung her arms around him. ”Thank you, thank you, thank yoooou!”
Ash grinned when Astrid asked him what his excuse was for all of the coffee he drank, "I run a house filled with superpowers teenagers. I should have an IV drip of espresso to keep this place in order." He teased her back, knowing that there was no where else in this world that he would want to be. He wanted to show Sirius and Astrid what kind of impacts they could have on the world. They were able to help the community they were part of, and help build Phalanx into everything that Ash knew that it could be. There was going to come a time where he would want to take it easy. Have a family of his own. He would need the right people to help him with that and there was no one who he trusted more than his brother and sister. Let them be the one to get all of the shit from all of the residents.
Ash took a sip of his coffee, laughing when she insisted that she was always on the nice list, "You forget that I know you and love you." He squeezed her hand, he wished that Sirius had stayed in town for the holiday too, but he was a teenager and he was going to do what he wanted to. "We have each other, and the other residents, teachers, Euphemia." Yes, he understood that Euphemia was a teacher and part of that, but he also knew that she was different than the rest of the teachers. He cared for her deeply and he wanted to have something more with her and the kiss in her classroom and the blatant flirting while Christmas shopping was leading him to believe that maybe she wanted him in the same ways. "We have a pretty intimidating pack around here. I wouldn't mess with us."
Ash knew that a lot of the kids made their presents for each other, so he tried to keep it quiet when he gave Sirius or Asha something nice. They were his siblings and he wanted to make sure that they understood how important they were to him. He leaned against the counter when she asked where the fun in letting it go would be and he took in a deep breath, "There might have been some flirting while we were shopping for Christmas presents, and I really don't want you to read too much into it."
She would. He knew that she would, but he could try to deny it meant anything more even if he wasn't fond of lying to himself or her.
"I could always ask who you're talking to, but it's the holidays and I would like to avoid biting someone." He sipped the hot coffee and watched her open her presents. She meant the world to him and he wanted to make sure that she had the nice things that she deserved. "As much of a pain in the ass you are, I still can't do this place without you."
He wrapped her into his arms and smiled at her praise. "You're welcome. Call Mom and Dad on your old phone, they said they'll take you to get the new one set up on their plan." Even though Sirius and Asha's mom didn't give birth to Astor, she was still the only mom that he knew. He loved Dorothy like his own and he knew that she felt the same way about him.

The teenager couldn’t help but grin in response to her brother’s expression, shaking her head at him. ”I don’t run it, but I’m definitely part of it. I feel like you’re going to need to share if you expect anything to get done,” she continued to tease, poking her tongue out at him for an added effect. Still, she appreciated the work that Ash did at Phalanx. Setting up the school had been an amazing idea and, while Asha knew that she didn’t have to be here, she wanted to be. Not only did it allow her more time with Astor and Sirius, but it also allowed her to see the difference that her eldest brother was making on the world. She saw how hard he worked and how little the rewards often seemed. He didn’t ask these kids for anything else in return for the safe place that offered a soft bed and a warm meal every day. He was the type of person that she wanted to be. Just because she was a teenager didn’t mean that she didn’t want wonderful things to come her way in life and she knew that it was going to take work in order to get there.
”The fact that you know and love me just goes to show that you know I’m at the top of the nice list.” It was a white lie and Astrid knew that. She was young, though. Mistakes were going to be made when hormones were running high. Stubborn though she might have been, she tried her best to own up to the mistakes that she made and tried to be a better person in the process. It was difficult and it was certainly something that took a lot of the patience that she definitely didn’t have, but Asha wanted to prove to Astor that she could be more than just his kid sister. There was a part of Asha that felt that she was meant for great things, even if she wasn’t quite sure what they were just yet.
The teen grinned as her brother spoke about Miss Morgan. There was no denying that she was different than the other teachers in the eyes of her older brother. Astrid, for one, thought that she was a wonderful person. Eppie was kind, but stern when she needed to be. She wasn’t harsh with her students and guided them with a gentle hand, though some got a bit more of a push then a nudge - but again, only as necessary. She was the kind of woman that embodied a role model and Asha was happy that if her brother was interested in anyone, it was as someone as nice as her. ”That we do,” she agreed, bobbing her head as she spoke before taking another sip of her sweetened coffee.
Her eyebrow arched higher than she thought possible when he admitted to her that he and Miss Morgan had been flirting during their shopping trip. Still, she wanted to squeal, but knowing that the rest of the house was still asleep managed to keep herself quiet. That didn’t mean that she didn’t almost bite a hole through her lip in the process or that she didn’t jump onto the balls of her feet in excitement. ”How can I not read into it? Clearly you haven’t seen the two of you together.” Asha gave Ash a pointed look and shook her head at him - up until he turned it around on her.
A blush colored her cheeks as her mind wandered towards Jude. She had saved up some of her money in order to be able to get him a little something nice. It wasn’t much, but she had hoped he would enjoy the endless amount of taco puns that would reference their first date. ”I doubt you need to bite literally the most innocent person in this house,” she admonished. Jude was one of the kindest people that Astrid had ever met and the fact that he was even remotely interested in her was something that she still couldn’t get over.
”Man, I don’t know how they think they’re going to top this,” she teased, relinquishing Astor from her embrace. ”No, no. I know better than that.” Not everyone in Phalanx got wonderful gifts, if only because that wasn’t something that the entire house could afford. But the Peronas were family at the end of the day and they tried to do things that were a little nicer for one another because of that. Leaning back against the countertop, her eyes wandered back towards Ash, inquisitive in their expression. ”So, any big plans for Phalanx in the new year? Anything your favorite sister in the entire world can be privy to or is able to help with?”
"I wish I could say that I had good help, half of the time it's me and Carver doing things around here and well, you've met Carver." He tried to keep some of the details about his time in Monroeville from his brother and sister over the years. They had been so little when he got out, it didn't seem appropriate to share that dark part of his life with them. As they got older, he just wanted to protect them from it. He would share that he disagreed with people being in there, that he worked on getting youth out who didn't really need to be there. It was important. "Maybe one day you'll take it over, when I'm an old man and lost half of my mind." He teased, "Then you can have a full cup of coffee." He wanted her to forge her own path and by no means expected her to take over Phalanx if it wasn't the spot for her. He knew in his gut that he was going to ask Jae to take on a more important role with Phalanx at some point, but he wanted the skinwalker to enjoy his freedom first. The type of life that being a bartender and full time pain in his ass would afford.
"You and Sirius are on the fence every year and you can keep telling yourself whatever you want." He shot back at her, not like his recent behaviors with Eppie would land him strictly on the nice list. His thoughts about the English teacher alone were very strictly naughty list material. Possibly the naughtiest known to man, but he couldn't help himself. She was beautiful, smart, and above everything else that he could list that he loved about her, she loved the kids of Phalanx like she had been there from the very beginning. She took on more kids than he knew was fair to ask her. She came up with perfect learning environments for their histories, their knowledge, their traumas. Seeing her with the students, it was what made him fall in love with her.
Knowing that someone else could be as dedicated to these kids as he was, it told him everything he needed to know about Euphemia. She was the one for him. His perfect match, and he was constantly screwing up trying to cross that boundary between employer and employee.
"Makes me wonder how you will ever find someone brave enough to cross into this pack and try to date you." He said looking at her, knowing that there was someone. She had been secretive lately and he was curious if it was someone in the house or not. He wasn't sure which one he preferred. One where he literally knew where the kid slept, or one where he would never know where Astrid slept.
Ash ran his hand over the scruff on his face and sighed, leaning on his forearms and he looked into his coffee to try to figure out just how much he wanted to tell his sister. She was his sister, but Eppie was still her teacher. Ash looked up at her and let go of a deep breath, "I think it all might be mutual, and I think I'm falling for her."
Asha's comment implied that it was obvious that something was happening between them, and while he was tempted to ask her just how long this had been an obvious thing, he instead was caught off guard about her comment about the most innocent person in the house. Wow. That wasn't something that he was expecting.
"Wow, um, I didn't know that you were bisexual or identified as a lesbian, but hey, I support you. I want you to know that. I still want the same rules though if you and Mary Mag are going to be in a room alone together. Just cause neither of you can get pregnant does not change the house rules. Though, she was raised on a convent so I didn't even know she was gay? Queer? Which is the right word I don't want to use the wrong one."
Ash could be dumb sometimes.
He took another drink of his coffee, refilling his cup and even topping off Asha's cup. "I think Mom and Dad will be by later with gifts." He grinned when she asked about big plans, "Converting the garage into an apartment for Jae, figuring out just how many more kids we can take in before we have to figure out the next plan, honestly."

”Carver is a handful, but he means well and most of the kids like him, which is a bonus. Though getting you some help that is around more frequently wouldn’t hurt,” the teenager mused. Carver was someone that Asha adored and considered to be like a pseudo-uncle type of person. He was there to torment Ash with her and looked out for the kids at Phalanx like they were his kin. There was no doubt that life would have been a fair bit duller without his presence at the home that her eldest brother had set up for the wayward youth. Still, Carver wasn’t exactly known for abiding by the rules and that was something that was undoubtedly going to give Astor more gray hairs than what he was ready to own up to actually having. There was only so much that everyone else could do to reduce the stress, especially since the majority of them were teenagers.
”That’s a lot of responsibility. Trusting me with that could be a mistake.” Though that didn’t mean that it was something that she hadn’t considered. Someone was going to have to keep this place going when Ash decided to retire. ”You already are an old man,” Asha found herself teasing right back, taking another long sip of that full cup of coffee that she had poured for herself. Though she respected her brother, he was going to have to fight her if he wanted her to drink less coffee and something told her that was something that neither of them actually wanted to get into. She was pretty scrappy and had never been against the very stereotypical hair pulling and biting. Ash definitely had enough hair that pulling it would be beneficial to his little sister and she would abuse whatever she possibly could in order to gain an advantage.
Quirking a brow at Ash, the younger girl shook her head at him but couldn’t hide the grin that had dimpled her cheeks. She was someone who caused mischief and Sirius was pretty broody, but they always wobbled to the nice side of Santa’s list. They had good hearts, even if they were still trying to navigate the lives that they had been thrust into. Asha had tried to sort herself out, at least a little, knowing that as she got older, she needed to set an example for the younger kids that might have found themselves on Phalanx’s porch. That didn’t mean that she didn’t have secrets though, and the person that she was sort of seeing and developing some serious feelings for was among them. Not because she was ashamed or wanted to hide what was going on from anyone, but because she didn’t want her brothers terrifying him.
”You would have to lack all five senses to not know what was going on between the two of you. Or to determine that it was mutual. You might be my big brother, but you’re kinda dumb,” she said, releasing the information like she was breaking big news to him as she reached out and placed her hand over his.
Taking another sip of coffee as Ash began to speak, her eyebrows suddenly rose on her forehead and she choked on the hot liquid that got caught in her throat. Setting the mug down quickly, she turned to the sink as she coughed, wetting a washcloth before pulling it to her face to catch the coffee that had dribbled over and then moving to wipe down the counter where she had spat her drink. Coughing again in order to clear her throat and catch her breath, Asha turned back to her brother. I’m not into girls, Ash!” Realizing exactly where he had interpreted that, she sighed heavily and pinched the bridge of her nose. ”It’s Jude, okay?”
Reaching back out for her now refilled coffee, she took another drink, attempting to actually enjoy it instead of choking on it again. ”Expansion in the future? I think we should get a place with a pool.”
He knew that kids all liked Carver, he was like some drunk toddler slash uncle that would teach them how to hit things. He knew that he taught them some life skills, and it was part of why Astor hired the man. He knew that he could handle anything after everything they went through together in Monroeville. He trusted Carver completely, but that didn't mean he didn't find the Tin Man to be annoying as all hell. "What you don't think that I can just keep running around keeping this place going on my own?" He asked, taking a deep drink of his coffee. He was exhausted all the time. He was always trying to do everything that was best for his students, he rarely thought about himself. Probably why the thought of risking things with Euphemia scared him so much. He wanted to be selfish for the first time since he went to Monroeville and he wasn't sure how to do it.
Ash wanted nothing more than to risk it all to be with her, and hope he didn't lose all credibility within Phalanx because he couldn't keep his hands off one of his teachers.
"It's down to you and Sirius, I'm sure between the two of you knuckleheads you'll keep the place from burning down." He didn't imagine retiring, he always figured he would be an ancient old man and still trying to help kids. Still busting kids out of Monroeville that didn't need to be there. He looked at his sister, mock wounded when she called him an old man. "You're a brat and I can still return the presents I got you Pup." He held the mug with both hands and smiled at his sister. He knew that she wanted to do everything to help Phalanx and that she cared for the house and wanted to keep it going as much as possible. boy
He gave her a look when she told him that he was kinda dumb. It was just the first relationship that he had really tried to attempt anything with. He had flings in the past, even an unfortunate lapse in judgement with his former Monroeville therapist. He wanted to have a family of his own to fill Phalanx House with, not just the family that he created with misfit kids who couldn't control their abilities. "Listen, I'm not dumb I'm just trying to keep this place from getting shut down on sexual harassment charges." He said with a sigh. He wanted to be with her so badly, and it drove him crazy just thinking that there was a chance that she could possibly want to be with him back.
"Does that mean you like her? As more than your English teacher?" If he was going to go forward with this, it wouldn't be something he was going to take lightly. Dating his employee, he wouldn't do it for just anyone and he wouldn't risk it all if he didn't think that he could have a future with her.
When he had the realization that his sister was bi or lesbian or whatever she wanted to identify as, Asha started to choke on her coffee. Coffee went all over her face and Ash watched the young teen clean herself up and he was suddenly getting the feeling that maybe it was't Mary Mag that she was interested in. "Jude Lovelle?" He asked, unsure that he was talking about the same person. "What does that involve you dressing up as a giant taco or something?" He asked, knowing that the young boy was more focused on his mismatched shoelaces and Mexican food.
He laughed and nodded in agreement, "I think I can find us a pool if I had to, but, that might mean leaving this part of New Orleans."

Asha was grateful that Carver was around to help relieve some of the responsibility that Astor had to deal with all of the time. While he was still the person that was in charge and made the final calls, sometimes you just needed to be able to delegate things and that was what Astrid was hoping that they would continue to have in Carver - and maybe someone else that was able to be around a little more often for when the Tin Man was out getting other kids to bring them back to Phalanx. At her brother’s question, an eyebrow lifted skeptically. ”Not without sending yourself to an early grave, no,” the teen admitted. As much as she knew Ash would work his ass off for this place, she knew that it wasn’t practical to have him doing everything by himself.
”Hey, hey. We have more than a few brain cells between us to rub together. I’m insulted you think so little of me,” she teased, scrunching up her face in his direction. Truthfully, Asha wasn’t sure if she would have it in her to keep Phalanx going if Ash decided to pass the reins on. It wasn’t that she wouldn’t want to, but she wasn’t sure that it was something that she was capable of doing - or at least not doing a good job of. There were too many ways in which she could mess something up and the thought that she might have to do it without the guidance of her eldest brother was terrifying. No matter how much she was confident that she and Sirius could help out more and make things run a little smoother, she didn’t know if they could do it alone.
When Ash rebuffed the fact that she had called her dumb, the blonde snorted and rolled her eyes. ”You’re a little dumb. Sexual harassment usually only happens in the event that the advances in question are unwanted and that kiss tells me they’re quite the opposite.” Even though she was sixteen, Asha observant and had seen enough movies to get the gist of the complications that came with adult relationships. She was of the mind that her brother and her teacher were both just being dumb and trying to avoid being together because they were just scared. There was no reward if a risk wasn’t taken.
”Maybe. I’d have to know her as more than my English teacher to make that judgement.” A pointed look was sent in his direction, something along the lines of telling him to stop sitting around and waiting and to just make a move. More than anything, Asha wanted her brothers to be happy in their lives and if Eppie was someone that made Ash happy, it was something that Asha supported.
”Is there another Jude that I haven’t met?” Jude Lovelle was adorable and addicted to tacos more than she had ever seen anyone enjoy a food. He was kind and he made her laugh. He wasn’t the type of person that she had imagined herself growing feelings for, but those feelings were there regardless, determined to make her stupid for him. The more time went on, the less Asha found she minded them. ”No,” Asha admonished, ”but it does involve eating a lot of tacos.” The Mexican restaurant they had visited was undoubtedly going to become a staple of theirs if they continued down this path. ”Leaving the Quarter would suck, but I might be willing to adapt for a pool.” The idea of a pool in the Louisiana heat was worth a different location to her.
Finely tuned ears picked up on the sound of footsteps starting to shuffle and move around on the floor above them and her gaze turned back towards her brother. ”I suppose I better hide this stuff before everyone comes down.” Setting her mug of coffee down, Asha once more hugged her brother and pulled his head down to kiss him on the cheek. ”You’re the best, Ash.” Releasing him, she quickly snatched up her gifts and bolted for the stairs.
